1pm - All NSDC owned car parks are now free of charge
A statement from the council said: “We hope this assists key workers and residents needing to undertake essential errands.
This is a small gesture of thanks, recognising the overwhelming public support for those continuing to go above and beyond in their efforts to reduce the spread and impact of Covid-19.
People should continue to follow Government advice and only travel for essential work, shop for necessities or to pick up medicines.”
The car parks owned by NSDC in Newark are:
- Castle House
- Riverside
- Appletongate
- Town Wharf
- London Road/Baldertongate
- Livestock Market
11am - Recycling bin collections from NSDC will resume from Monday 13th April.
The service collecting silver bins was temporarily suspended due to staffing and social distancing concerns.
Residents are asked to place their bin out by 6am as the routes have changed, and advised that no additional side waste will be collected.
NSDC leader Councillor David Lloyd apologised for the inconvenience and said: “We have acted quickly by redeploying and training staff and bringing new vehicles into the fleet.”
He added “I am grateful for residents’ support and understanding this last week and would remind people to please double-bag any tissues or similar items that might carry contamination.”

Newark and Sherwood District Council has announced that it will be closing major sites around the District in order to follow social distancing recommendations.
The Palace Theatre, Newark, Nineteen20 Cafe Bar, National Civil War Museum, its leisure centres operated by Active4Today at Newark, Blidworth, Dukeries and partner site Southwell Leisure Centre Trust and community centres with effect from March 18, 2020.
Council owned Gladstone House, Newark, and Vale View, Newark, will remain open to visitors, provided that they are not unwell or showing any symptoms of the virus. All communal areas will be closed along with the Truly Beauty hairdressing salon at Gladstone House.
