A petition over the removal of four trees near Newark Library was handed in to Newark and Sherwood District Council this evening (Thursday 7th March.)

More than 1500 signatures have been gathered by protesters.

The petition launched to protest against the planned removal of four mature trees to make way for extra car parking spaces on land beside London Road car park was handed in tonight (Thursday 7th March) at Newark and Sherwood District Council Head Quarters.

The handover took place at Castle House at 6pm, before the full council meeting.

The four lime and sycamore trees due to be removed are estimated to be between 80 and 120 years old. Local tree surgeons also joined in a recent protest against the development.

Radio Newark were at the meeting providing Facebook Live coverage of the submission of the petition and a response from Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council.
