A man has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a crash involving six vehicles on the A1 at Newark this morning (Thursday 9 March 2017).
The man, who was trapped in the wreckage, was extricated from his vehicle by the fire service before being flown to the Queen’s Medical Centre.
Police are appealing for witnesses and information and investigating the circumstances of the collision which happened at about 7.55am on the northbound carriageway. Two lorries were among the vehicles involved.
The A1 at Newark has opened Southbound, diversions are in place Northbound.
The A1 is not expected to re-open until about 8pm today.
Officers are appealing for any eye witnesses to the collision to get in contact as well as anyone who was travelling on the A1 southbound at the time who happened to have a dash cam that captured the crash.
Anyone with any information which may assist is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 137 of Thursday 9 March 2017.
