Newark and Sherwood District Council have finished extension work on the Great North Road, Newark, lorry park with parking now available for up to 200 vehicles.
The space provides hauliers with a much needed rest spot, and it is also hoped the additional spaces will reduce the number of lorries parking dangerously in residential areas. Secure, off-street parking for day-visiting coaches has also been provided to encourage more footfall into Newark attractions.
The park is open 24 hours a day, for 7 days a week and includes a lorry wash, shower facilities and a restaurant serving homemade hot and cold food. Vehicles can turn up and leave easily, with ANPR gates scanning number plates on arrival.
Councillor Keith Girling, deputy leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, shared: “We’re delighted with the lorry park extension, it brings better facilities to Newark with more space for lorries to park safely and securely. The extension will have a positive impact on Newark’s economy by bringing more people into the area.
“I am pleased to see that work has started on the new Certas Energy HGV refuelling bunker as well which will make life easier for lorry drivers using the facilities.”
Work has now begun on the HGV refuelling bunker at Newark lorry park. This is a refilling station especially developed to allow easy filling and movement for larger vehicles.
Andrew Goodwin, National Bunker Manager for Certas Energy, said: “It is a pleasure to be partnering with Newark Lorry Park to help to deliver a ‘one-stop’ destination for drivers and hauliers. The Newark site is a key part of the Certas Energy wider strategy to extend our bunker site coverage across the UK’s strategic road network. Certas Energy is committed to boosting convenience for drivers all over the country, and our Newark site is another fantastic step towards this. ”
