The village, near Southwell is already putting on its race-day face ahead of the Ovo Energy Tour of Britain on 6th September.
Preparations are well underway for The Tour of Britain and include:
- An avenue of yellow bikes along the main road through the village.
- A yellow bike suspended in mid-air about the churchyard entrance.
- A yarn-bombed bike knitted in Tour of Britain red, white and blue.
- A giant 20 metre bike carved on a hillside field just outside the village, visible from aerial
- TV coverage, with a second one planned in a field immediately next to the race route.
- Children from the village are making a giant cloth ‘Welcome to Edingley’ sign, also intended to be visible in TV helicopter coverage of the bike race.
Parish Councillor Maurice Needoff says: “We’re confident we’ll have more yellow bikes than any other village on the route. A lot are already visible but we’ve got many more lined up. A range of community activities are being planned for residents and visitors alike, making it an ideal place to
watch the cycling action."
"It’s been a tremendous community effort. Local resident Ben Ian has collected the bikes and we’ve got AW Accident Repair to thank for spraying them all yellow. The yarn bike has been knitted by a team from the Loft Handmade studio space in the village, led by Gill Hillyer. Local farmer David Brown has created the giant bike on the hillside. And the children have all teamed together to make our giant cloth ‘Welcome to Edingley’ sign, organised by Cathy Clay. The sign
will be laid out in a field right next to the bike race route.”
And on the day, the village won't be just spectating, a community cycle ride is planned to leave the village an hour after the main event with a choice of 10 mile and 20 mile routes. The ride is open to anyone who wants to take part, young and old and in between.
