Jenrick Holds Newark Seat

Conservative Party candidate Robert Jenrick is re-elected as MP for Newark.

Conservative Party candidate Robert Jenrick has been re-elected MP for Newark, winning his third election in three years with 34,493 votes. The result, was announced at 3:30am at Newark Sports & Fitness Centre. 

Voter turnout was confirmed earlier in the morning as 73.09%, higher than the 2015 turnout of 70.9%.

Talking to Evie Hoggard following the news of his re-election, Robert said that local issues are important to him.

The roads, railways and broadband infrastructure around Newark and the surrounding villages are high on his agenda.

Secondary school education, which had previously been particularly poor in the town, is now on the up and Robert wants to use his influence to facilitate in that continuing to improve.

Robert is a staunch supporter of Newark Hospital, which he admits has been through a difficult period. The trust which runs the hospital is now improving and he is keen and willing to keep on fighting for it - a message he is not afraid to deliver to the trust or to whoever is in government.

Of the other candidates standing for election in the Newark Constituency, Chantal Lee of the Labour Party received 16,344 votes, David Watts representing the Liberal Democrats finished in third place with 2,786 votes and UKIP's Xandra Arundel came last with 1,419 votes.

In the Sherwood Constituency, following a 70.19% turnout, the Conservative Party's Mark Spencer was re-elected having received 27,492 votes.
