Animals’ lives can be saved if the equipment is easily accessible for the fire service.
Hazel Millns, who has a family history with the fire service has achieved over double her original target to equip Newark Fire Engines with oxygen masks which fit dogs and cats.
Hazel found out about the oxygen masks online and was inspired to start fundraising by her own Springer Spaniel, Bramble.
She has currently raised £241 - 267% of her original £90 target.
The oxygen masks are supplied by non-profit organisation Smokey Paws, and are specially designed to fit over the nose and mouth of animals like cats and dogs. The Smokey Paws website states that the masks, which come in three sizes, have been used on a variety of different pets: dogs, cats, rabbits, snakes, guinea pigs and ducks.

Hazel thanked everyone for their great response to the campaign and explained how her family link to the fire service helped her decision to fundraise, “My Father was a fireman, on his first ever shout a dog died. And as a pet owner myself when I came across Smokey Paws it was easy choice to take action.”
The NHS Blood and Transplant Service are calling on local people to help fill available blood donation appointments at their Nottingham Donor Centre over coming days and weeks to help boost their blood stock levels.
