Updated: Appeal issued following incident on Lombard Street
There was a large police presence on Lombard Street in Newark as it is thought a car failed to stop for police, damaging cars and eventually ended up partly on the pavement. There are claims that the occupants of the car were then pursued on foot.
Two ambulances were also on the scene, as well as the police helicopter above.
One eyewitness described the moment the car, pursued by police, came around the corner, "They ploughed straight through traffic on two wheels, cars were just crumpling like paper." When asked about the individuals driving the car, "They just had no regard for safety, anything - not people's property." Several cars were damaged in the incident, with vehicle recovery taking place into the evening.
Lincolnshire Police have now issued an appeal for witnesses of the collision or any member of the public who saw anyone running from the scene. They would especially like to speak to the occupant of a blue Mercedes in the area at the time and may have seen what happened. Anyone with information has been asked to call 101 quoting incident 193 of 18/07/17.
