Staff from Newark and Sherwood District Council will be joined by officers and cadets from Newark Police to tidy the town on Tuesday 25th June.
Issues being addressed will include graffiti removal, deep street cleansing, foliage trimming, repainting street furniture and better signage in a bid to increase local pride and support town centre development as part of a national scheme.
One-off government funding has been allocated to councils country-wide to ensure high streets look their best and thrive to entice shoppers into town centres.
Litter picking will also take place in the town centre and on Pelham Street, Millgate, Newark Castle and riverside areas as well as the removal of unauthorised flyers and leaflets posted on buildings, bins and elsewhere in public.
Members of NSDC's waste management, public protection and grounds maintenance teams will be carrying out the work, alongside a specialist team removing graffiti - which has been confirmed by the police as a cause of antisocial behaviour.
Newark and Sherwood District Council leader, David Lloyd, said: “I am very much looking forward to the day of action and hope we can build on the success of our Cleaner, Safer and Greener campaign. High streets are the centrepoint of our communities but sometimes they need a bit of a spruce up to ensure they are looking their very best.
“This additional funding is exciting news and as well as helping fund the Newark day of action, it is enabling us to purchase more clean-up equipment to support the groups and projects dedicated to reducing litter in our district, as well as organise more days of action like this for town centres in the district.”
The annual Newark in Bloom judging takes place on Wednesday 10th July and the day of action will see colourful shrubs and herbaceous perennials planted to improve surroundings and promote a clean, green and sustainable environment.
