The Newark Waste and Water Improvement Project is a finalist at this years ICE People's Choice Awards, following directly on from our recent success of being awarded East Midlands Project of the Year.
The Waste and Water Improvement Project has been shortlisted along with impressive projects in Hong Kong and New York. This comes as great news to the residents of Newark, who have been extremely patient whilst the works have taken place.
The project received a £60m investment from Severn Trent Water, with over 400 homes and businesses feeling the benefit of the improvements. The work added a 2.8km segmental tunnel passing beneath the town (including East Coast Mainline), 2km of pipe-jack tunnels, 2.55km of water mains renewal, 6 km of open-cut sewers, and more than 10km of new water mains mainly constructed in the town’s streets.
Newark will now benefit from a significant decrease in flood risks, with existing waste and water networks also being renewed as part of the project, helping to reduce leakage, water quality issues, the risk of supply interruptions for customers, and the risk of blockages within the sewers.
