Newark AC teamed up with their friends from Notfast and Striders for a bit of festive exercise
The annual Newark AC Boxing Day handicap which started life in 1985 the year of the present day handicappers birth. This year with the addition of friends from Notfast and Striders the field swelled to 51 catering for males and females from u11 to over75.
A bright and cold day saw the action get underway at 11.00am and the final athlete set off 25 min later!. The under 11s run 2 laps, over 13 and above females 3 laps and the over 13 and above males 4 laps with each lap just short of 1k and somehow the handicapper makes it work.
First to cross the line was Ellie Monaghan closely followed by Tom Simpson and Alexander Combie. The fastest lady was Olivia Mathias 10min 20secs, fastest male Linton Taylor 11min 43secs. Jasmine Braithwaite was the fastest girl under 11 9min 12 secs and Joseph Monk the fastest under 11 boy 7min 41 secs.
Steve Needham’s time is slightly down on what he would expect but he only turned up to support the wife and then decided to run in his cycling shoes but that’s the spirit of Christmas
A big thank you to the handicapper who managed once again to keep the recorders on their toes with at one stage 30 athletes finishing within a minute.
