Fun on the water
Report from the end of June sprint regatta at Holme Pierrepont
4A’s paddlers were in action over the weekend at Holme Pierrepont. The glorious weather on Saturday brought a rash of PBs across both K1 and K2 races. Unfortunately, the strong head winds on Sunday made the conditions too challenging for any more PBs.
The first race was the 500 metres K1 with 6 PBs including Daniel Warwick (3:06), Daniel Spencer (2:50), Dakota Martin(3:30), Jacob Mansfield (2:29) and Beth Fisher (2:42). However, the biggest improvement came from Zac Marshall(2:33), over 12 seconds faster than his previous times. Lewys Davies, paddling in his first 500 metre K1 race, went straight into the Boys B Timeband (3:20)
Next came the 500 K2. There were 3 PBs in this race, from Daniel Warwick and Lewys Davies (3:05), an amazing improvement of 42 seconds, Beth Fisher and Lindsay Thorpe (2:29) and Jacob Hage and Jacob Mansfield (2:19). A special mention must be made for Cassie Glaves, who has only been paddling with the club for a couple of weeks, and initially was only coming to HPP to watch, but due to another paddler being ill, stepped into the breach to paddle with Dakota Martin in her first ever race, and got a time of 3:23.
It was looking good for the K2 200 metre race, and the 4A’s didn’t disappoint. There were PBs again from Daniel Warwick and Lewys Davies (1:14), Jacob Hage and Daniel Spencer (58:83) and Beth Fisher with Lindsay Thorpe (57:92). However, the stars of the show were cousins Zac Marshall and Jacob Mansfield, who were paddling together for the first time, and broke the club record by over 2 seconds in a time of 50:53.
The last race of the day was the K1 200 metres. Six paddlers beat their previous PBs. Jacob Mansfield (55:25), Zac Marshall (56:74), Jacob Hage (58:35), Beth Fisher (1:01) Lewys Davies (1:19) and Dakota Martin, with the biggest improvement of over 8 seconds in 1:22. Cassie Glaves, paddling in her first K1 race, came home with a time of 1:24.
Sprint racing takes a break until the end of August, but 4 A’s will still be competing in marathon races over the next 2 months.
