One week, three races
Amelia has had an unusually busy time competing this week for both her school and athletics club.
Last Saturday she ran for Worksop College XC Team, at Rugby School in the IAPS XC League. The race was slightly longer to what Amelia is used to at 4.2km and was through farmers’ fields! Her race was for U18 girls and U16 boys, against many other schools and colleges. After a very strong start Amelia was in 2nd place for most of the race but was overtaken with about 400m of the race to go. She managed a fantastic 3rd placed girl and 6thoverall.
Her next race took place on Wednesday afternoon once again for her School, at St Anselms College. This was another mixed boys and girls race. Amelia still in yr 7 was competing in the yr7 and yr8 race against 8 other schools on a 3km hilly course. She ran well and her and another girl broke away from the rest of the field for most of the race. She crossed the line in a great 2nd girl and 6th overall.
To round off her week, today (Saturday), Amelia was representing Newark AC, at the Midlands XC Championships at Prestwold Hall, in her highest quality race of the week. Although it is called the ‘Midlands’ the entry list covers Athletics Clubs as far down the country as Bristol, so is a huge area. Amelia was racing in her first year of the U13G category and lined up on the start line, against a talented field of athletes, raring to go. The course was a very testing, muddy, one lap, undulating, 3.4km course. After a fast start Amelia was around 60th in the large field with 3km still ahead of her. She settled well and started picking her way through the athletes and as she came back into view, with around 400m to go, she was in a solid 28th. She raced hard for the finish line and crossed in a brilliant 23rd place. A great finish to the week
