Amy Hunt

The full story of a magnificent weekend

Big thanks to Amy’s mum Claire for sending us the following report;

Here's an update from this last weekend which saw Amy travelling with a small contingent of GB Junior athletes to the Mannheim Junior Gala - this is an international athletics meeting with 19 countries represented that also
doubles as the German Junior Championships.

Amy was selected to run in two 4 x 100m relay races and also an individual run over 200m.

The meeting was held over two days and the team travelled on Friday in preparation.

The weather was incredibly hot, over 36 degrees on both days.

The track is renowned for fast times and there was great expectation within the team for new pbs.

Amy had to wait until 6.20pm on Saturday for her first track appearance in the Under 20 relay heats.

The team performed well with a new season best performance of 44.29 seconds with Amy, on second leg, making up ground and overtaking the early frontrunners, this set-up the team going in to the last two legs and they won.

Amy was really pleased with her run and was excited at the prospect of running again on Sunday.

First up on Sunday was the final for the relay teams and another slick performance saw the GB junior team win their race.

Amy then had to rush off the track to start her preparations for the individual 200m race.

Amy was ranked European Under 20 leader in both 100m and 200m so there was great anticipation as to how she would run on a fast track in the sun.

Amy got off to a great start in the 200m, powering around the bend on to the finish straight with a sizeable lead on the rest of the field. Amy continued
powering down the home straight and over the line in 22.42s to take the win.
The crowd reacted with great excitement to this as the time was so quick.
Amy could not quite believe how the race went and the super quick time, it was only coming off the track that one of the GB management team told her
that he thought it was an Under 18 world record! This was later confirmed,
plus it broke a certain Dinah Asher-Smith's British Under 20 record for 200m
and is the 3rd fastest time by a British woman over 200m all time. To ratify the world record performance Amy then had to go through anti-doping to ensure there was no controversy as to the performance, before flying back late last night.

Amy said:
“I am still utterly in shock and haven't quite processed what happened yet!
I was really excited going into the race but my main priority was to enjoy the race and gain experience so I was completely mind-blown when I saw the
time'.

'My next race will be at European Juniors and this is the main focus for the year'.

'The reaction to the run has been insane but I know I've got to keep my feet on the ground and hopefully there's even bigger things to come'.

Amy's next competition will be the European Junior Championships held in Boras, Sweden in July, and her focus now will be on preparing for this over the next two weeks.
