Bronze for James

Fernwood Sword Club

We have a last minute end of (adult) season competition to report on with James winning a bronze medal in the men's foil at the Norfolk Open, held in Norwich on Saturday.

It was a an early start, with a 3 hour journey to get there. There were around 40 entries and James had a bright start, confidently winning all of his first round of poule matches. Things didn't quite go to plan in the second round of poule matches, with two fights dropped, including one to Luke Rees, one of James's team mates in the Senior Winton last weekend. However, the results were enough to give James a bye in the incomplete round of 64 and he sailed through his L32 match. A victory against Kiron Austin, junior fencer from Newham Swords of London followed in L16. James then made no mistake in L8 against another team mate from last weekend, Kieran Patrick of Leicester University. In the semi-finals, James couldn't quite finish off Chris Lennon of  Salle Boston in London. James had lost 4-5 against Lennon in the Senior Winton last weekend and Lennon's strong parry ripostes were enough to see him through to the final on Saturday.
