Paul Drury looks back at the first month of the season;
First Team.
The first team are finding life difficult in Division one without their captain Chris Gibbons who is struggling with a wrist injury and hasn’t played this season yet. As a result the team are having to call on players from the second team and whilst they have been performing well the side hasn’t managed a win in their opening 3 games and sit at the foot of the table. The results have been against Racketeers (4-1), David Lloyd WB (4-1) and a close 3-2 defeat to Trent Bridge with individual wins for Paul Burrell and Christian Cardenas.
Second Team.
Following last season’s promotion to Division 2 the second team are also find life difficult having won one and lost 3 of their opening 4 matches. The solitary win came against Chilwell with Mark Chester, Christian Cardenas and Jamie Groden who stepped up from the 4th team winning their individual matches. The reversals have come against Sutton Bonnington, Southwell 1 and Clifton Park. Again the team hasn’t as yet been able to field its full side due to injuries and work commitments and currently sit second from bottom but with games in hand on the sides immediately above them.
Third Team.
This is a new team which has moved from Southwell this season and has started well and currently sit forth in Division 3 have both won and lost 3 matches. Their victories have come against Sutton 2 with wins for Tom Breffitt, Richard Wilson and Ben Taylor and most recently back to back wins against Grantham 4, 3-2 with Breffitt being supported by Richard Wilson and son Harry and Southwell 2, 4-1 with Breffitt farther and son Wilson and Ben Taylor winning their matches.
Forth Team
In Division 5 the forth team sit on top of the table having won all their opening 5 matches. The team is made of mainly of new members and club night players. The victories have come against Trent University Students 3, University of Nottingham Students 2, Sutton Bonnington 2, Trent Bridge 7 and Park Pinks B. Both Adam Whitney and James Cockerton and won all the matches they have played in and have been ably supported by Jamie Groden, Dave Grant, Jack Peterken and Captain Steve Knowlton-Rayner.
