End of Cup dream
NEWARK FLOWSERVE lost 2-0 at home to Carlton Town on Tuesday night under the lights at Lowfields, but that doesn’t begin to tell half the story.
Carlton Town, Flowserve’s opponents in the Notts Senior Cup Fourth Round tie, play their football two leagues higher that their hosts but, other than they scored at the beginning and the end of the game, they were comprehensively outplayed in between.
Carlton ended with two players taken to hospital, injured while robustly challenging orange clad opponents, and they were also outfought on the footballing front – but the difference was that they took their chances while The Highwaymen failed to create any clear-cut ones of their own, despite their utter dominance of the proceedings.
Cheered on once more by another astonishing attendance of 226 on a night when temperatures were rapidly falling after an afternoon snow flurry, the Flowserve faithful eschewed a warm night by the fire to cheer on their heroes.
Reece Bertram, Carlton’s most influential figure, fired the visitors in front on six minutes and Kyle Stovell, an overly-excited substitute, made it two a minute into stoppage time.
It was the first time in 17 games that Flowserve had tasted defeat. They had won 15 of their previous 16 outings, scoring no fewer than 70 goals and conceding just 11 in the process.
It may be Carlton Town in the hat for the quarter-final draw of the county’s flagship tournament, but the name of Newark Flowserve is here to stay and will have a big part in the future of Nottinghamshire football.
Newark Flowserve: 1 Joe Searson; 2 Sol Miller; 3 Will Rawdon; 4 Tom Potts (captain); 5 Rhys Lewis; 6 Jammy Lloyd; 7 Jack Beckett; 8 Danny Meadows; 9 Sam Agar; 10 Tyrell Shannon-Lewis (Elliot King 79mins); 11 Blair Anderson.
Attendance: 226.
