A disappointing result for the ladies

Ladies 1s Vs Market Harborough

The ladies drew 1-1 against Market Harborough, despite having a strong team with a number of subs and winning a number of penalty corners, Newark failed to deliver the win and could not convert the penalty corners to goals.  A disappointing result for the ladies.

Ladies 4s v Arnold

Coach James Barker instructed the team to go out with a strong start against Arnold and with first pushback, Kate set the tone by bringing the ball into the attacking half, where Newark managed to keep possession and play the ball round to try to create space. Wingers Amelie and Thea  stayed wide and tried to drive the ball into the D, but the Arnold defence were too strong. However, their tactic of playing a high striker did not pay off, as even when the ball got through the Newark forwards and mid fielders, defender Moira Chambers picked up the stray balls and sent them back on the attack.

Strong play in the centre by Sophie Chambers stopped many of the big hits getting through and helped Newark keep possession for the majority of the time. Newark were unable to capitalise on a couple of penalty corners and Sam Wade was unlucky to have a goal from the edge of the D disallowed when the umpire spotted an errant Newark foot had touched the ball. A very lucky break from Arnold caught the Newark backs off-guard and they managed to beat the defence and slot the ball home, giving a half-time score of 1-0.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first, with Newark retaining the majority of possession. Jacky Nullis held her ground and repeatedly put an end to the clear runs from Arnold and sent the ball back to the Newark forwards, who were still unable to capitalise on several opportunities. Following a penalty corner to Arnold, the umpire awarded them a penalty flick, as the ball was impeded on the line but calm play from keeper Clare Dent saw her make a great save and keep the score within reach. However, the longed-for goal stayed elusive for the remainder of the match giving Arnold the victory at 1-0.

Men's 1s Vs South Notts

A dominant first half saw Newark take a two nil lead with plenty of other chances skimming the posts. South Notts came out with a high press and found gaps in the Newark defence to take the winin the second half.  Final score 2-3, meaning the unbeaten run of matches since Christmas has been broken for the men, but overall, they remain mid-table in the league.

Goals from Simon Higgs and John Reynolds.

Players of the match – Robbie Robertshaw and Emil Lin.
