Newark Hockey Club

New season looms

Newark Hockey started their pre season preparations with a Club Day, Emily Crisp tells the story,

Club Day 2019

Over 50 club members started the new season on Saturday with a round robin friendly tournament at Magnus, with a mixture of players from junior (O13s) and senior sides of mixed ages and abilities.  The teams played 20 minute matches on half a pitch with some fantastic play and team work throughout.

Umpires of all abilities were also given the chance to acquaint themselves with some England Hockey rule changes and to have guidance from more experienced umpires in the club.

The social hockey secretaries Harvey Tate, Jessica Hull and Vicky Jones organised a great raffle and players were able to buy some delicious homemade cakes and sweet treats throughout the day, all of which were donated to raise funds for the club.

After a summer of mixed hockey sessions and various summer leagues, training for the new season starts this week with men’s hockey on Tuesday nights from 7pm and ladies training from 6:30 – 8pm (3s and 4s) and 8pm – 9:30pm for the 1’s and 2’s.  New members are welcome to turn up for a taster session and to find out more.

Friendly weekend matches start this coming weekend with league matches starting for most teams at the end of the month.

Hannah Laughton

Newark Hockey player Hannah Laughton was selected to play in the England Hockey Futures Cup in August which was a four day training camp whereby England Hockey look to train and select the hockey stars of the future.   The training camp was rounded off with a inter-camp tournament and Hannah was selected to be vice-captain of the winning team.

Ann Crockett-McLean, Head of Junior Hockey for Newark said “Hannah has been playing hockey at Newark since she was little.  From an early age we could see great potential in her ability and it is fantastic that his is now being noticed at a national level.  As well as playing hockey, Hannah has been one of our under 8’s coaches, inspiring and developing the next generation of hockey players in Newark.”
