The Newark Women’s O35s were away to Doncaster at the weekend following a victorious win in their first match before Christmas. The fixture was cancelled before the break due to frosty weather so the ladies faced a match back just a few days into the new year. Nonetheless, there was some fighting spirit from Newark.
After a long first half, the play was even, but some hard work in the attacking D led to a well-organised goal for Newark making it 1-0 at half time. After the break, Newark let the lead slip early into the 2nd half and quickly conceded a scrappy goal. There was outrage from the Newark team who fought back hard, struggling to keep it at a draw as two Newark players were given green cards by the umpires, the team was down to 9 players for 10 minutes! Once back to the full 11, the team scored three more convincing goals in quick succession, with great team work from the forwards and a low straight strike from Tricia Trafford on a penalty corner sealing the win. After a complacent few minutes, Newark conceded a poor goal from Doncaster but managed to keep the score line at 4-2.
Goal scorers – Sara Jackson (2), Trica Trafford and Sarah Pask. Next match is at home on 3rd Feb.
