Amelia Chrispin

On Saturday 1st July Amelia travelled to the iconic Eton Dorney lake to take part in the SuperTri High Performance Draft Legal Triathlon. This triathlon was being used as a National Qualifier for the East Midlands region as well as a number of the UK triathlon regions, so the level of competition was high.

As usual the start of the 200m open water swim was a mass of white water and limbs, rightly earning its nickname of the  'the washing machine'. Amelia had fantastic swim leaving the water in a surprise third position, quickly entering transition to discard her wetsuit and recover her bike for the start of the 5.6km circuit of the lake.

The next time we saw Amelia was when she came back towards transition at the end of the bike leg, with a tight group of around 15 other athletes. What the group had not realised whilst drafting each other, was a single athlete had made a break away and was leading the race by 30 seconds.

Amelia started the 1800m running hard chasing the lead athlete. She broke away from the large bike group that had entered transition with two other girls who worked hard together. With around 500m to go Amelia started to up the pace and managed to break away from her two running partners. She crossed the line in a fantastic 2nd place, 1st East Midlands girl. A great race and result.
