Amelia Chrispin enjoys the sun in Yorkshire
Big thanks to Amelia’s father for the following report
Yesterday (Sunday 24th June) we all travelled to a very hot and sunny Pugneys Lake and Country Park for Amelia to take part in the Wakefield Junior Triathlon. Although we are nearly into July this was the first triathlon of the Series this year. All the athletes where eager to perform well as this one of the National qualifying races.
Amelia was racing in her first year of the Tristar 3 age group in a mixed gender start.
The hooter went off for the frenetic start of the 300m open water swim, with a lot of white water. Amelia was instantly caught in the face and ended up in last place as she recovered her senses a little. She did not panic and got back into to the race, but left the water as 10th girl 29 seconds off the pace of the leaders.
She had a super slick transition and left for the 6km bike in 3rd place. Pushing hard from the start she managed to catch the leaders after the first lap of six and take the lead. The bike section was a testing mix of off road gravel with a little grass and Amelia biked well. She manged to maintain her lead, keeping the chasing pack at bay and after dropping off her bike started the 2.4km grassed run in 1st place.
In the oppressive heat Amelia was dousing herself at the water stations every lap, but still looked strong, and had an excellent run, pushing herself to her limits crossing the line with a massive smile in a brilliant 1st place. A great result 1st place girl and 7th overall.
