Shunts, bumps and crashes
The Brisca V8 Stock Cars, Ministocks and Brisca F1’s provides some spectacular racing at Birmingham Wheels on Saturday evening, with shunts, bumps and crashes in the mix.
After Dave’s successes in the last few races he and was awarded his first blue roof, making a jump of two grades. The driver not had only to get to grips with racing the car on tarmac with the new set up, for the first time this season but also to starting from a lot further back on the grid.
The first V8 race of the evening was the Incarace Gold Cup, with an entry of 28 cars starting with a close grid format. The start was fast with lots of pushing and shunting as drivers jockeyed for position, but Dave held his nerve and missed the major shunts which saw the race halted whilst damaged cars were moved off the track and the race restarted. Dave battled on to finish a creditable 12th and in the points.
A quick check of the car by Teresa and Marilyn revealed that everything was ok, car refueled and Dave was back out for race 2. This race started in the normal open grid style which put Dave well behind the white and yellow grade drivers. Once again, the fast conditions lead to cars hitting the wall and pushing each other off line to gain advantage. Dave battled well when being challenged by the higher-grade drivers and held his ground to keep his line and even cause one driver to mount the banking on the infield. At the end of a hard-fought race he finished in 10th place. More points scored and a very happy team.
Hopes were now high for the final and Dave went out to try and repeat his successes. Running in 10th place and challenging to move up a place the car suddenly lost power and he was forced to pull off on to the infield, due to an electrical fire in the engine.
Work is now on to replace the wiring ready for the next race at Stoke Raceway on the 18th May.
