Stock car number 63 in the points
With a forecast of heavy showers MDS Racing headed to Stoke Speedway on Saturday for round two of the Brisca V8 stock car Northern and Midland Championship series.
The rain held off to provide a dry meeting at the Chesterton Race Circuit and racing was at a fast pace.
In heat one the handling gremlin returned and Dave struggled to keep up with the pace but held on to 11th place to gain a valuable point.
A change of rear right tyre helped to improve the handling for heat two and Dave went into the lead for several laps before he spun off on the slippery shale. After managing to rejoin the race at the rear he clawed his way back up the field to finish in a creditable 8th place.
An interesting and robust final saw many cars hitting the wall, spinning off and jostling for places. Dave hit the wall hard after a tussle with another car losing his place and a couple of laps. He managed to rejoin the race two laps down and fought his way to back up to another 11th place. The winner of the final was Staffordshire driver 69 Matt Barnard.
A quick check over of the car revealed no serious damage and the pit crew got Dave out for the Grand National. Racing was once again fast with Dave and another blue grade driver forcing their way through to the front of the pack where they battled for first place. Teresa and Marilyn held their breath as laps counted down. Guy Jolly from Huntingdon a highly regarded star grade driver managed to close up on the two blue grades in the last two laps to take the win but Dave held on to gain 3rd place with all three drivers crossing the finish line almost together to the celebrations of Dave’s pit crew.
Preparations are now on the way for the next meeting, the National Pairs Championship at Skegness Race Way on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday.
