Disaster strikes as wheel studs shear
Brisca V8 British Drivers Championship
Last Sunday was the Brisca V8, Brisca F1 and National Ministox British Drivers Championship, held at the spectacular Hednesford Hills Raceway, which is situated in the Hednesford Hills nature Reserve near Cannock Chase.
With three British Championships up for grabs the meeting was very well attended both by drivers and spectators. At the start of the meeting weather conditions were a little challenging with showers and possible thunderstorms forecast.
For MDS Racing two qualifying heats preceded their main event, the Brisca V8 British Championship race. Choosing intermediate tyres which had proven successful at previous meetings with similar track conditions Dave Sharp in stock car 63 started the race well back on row nine of the grid. With over 20 cars on the grid, prize money and the British title at stake racing was always going to be robust.
Three laps in and the race had to be stopped for safety reasons with crashes at turns two and four. Damaged vehicles were removed from the track and the race was restarted. Two laps later one of the cars lost an aerofoil on a bend stopping the race again. Another big shunt and another restart and Dave was up to eleventh place right behind and closing on four other cars. As he caught them and battled for ninth place disaster struck when wheel studs sheared making the car uncontrollable. With only three laps left he was forced to withdraw from the race as the car was unsafe to continue.

The MDS team are now focusing on their next meeting which will be to contest the European Championship at Mildenhall on the 29th June.
DAVE GOES BACK TO SCHOOL
The children at St Peter's Cross Keys C of E Primary Academy in Farndon had a surprise visit on Monday morning when MDS Racing called in fresh from a full weekends stock car racing to give the children a presentation about motor sport. Dave, Teresa and Marilyn explained about racing stock cars, what is involved to get the car prepared prior to the race meeting, what happens during the meeting and the teamwork that makes it possible for the driver to compete. The children were given the opportunity to look at some of the equipment used by the team and try out some of the protective fireproof clothing used before being shown a power point display and allowed to try on the helmet, goggles and gloves. They were shown videos of an actual race followed by a question and answer session.
Some of the pupils had already shown an interest in team 63 visiting them at race meetings at Skegness and Buxton and the team were pleased to call into the school at the invitation of Headmistress Mrs Duffell “We had a lovely morning with the school and were pleased with the questions that the children asked. They really took an interest in the car and how we get it ready for the race.” Said the team.
