Gordon Welbourn Week
It was a week of records at the 32nd Gordon Welbourn Running Week with over one hundred athletes taking part in the five events for the first time anyone could remember.
Adam Holland won the trophy for the fourth consecutive year, this is what he had to say;
Gordon Whelbourn Week Day 5.
Last day of the 5 days and instead of 5km it was a 10km and sometimes you will get the odd people come for this day only. All week I had been wearing my Radio Newark vest and skins kit but for the last one I had to wear my Notfast vest. Before we started I went on a 7.1 mile warm up visiting friends a long the way. It was great to look at the results so far to see over half were Notfast runners. Headed to the start well warmed up and ready to go, got off to a good start following the lead bike (before the start we joked about me overtaking him). On the course is a new bridge which put a hill into the run that was not there before. I couldn't help it and sprinted up the hill to over take him and then he passed me on the downhill where we both laughed about it. Made it to half way in good time and it was great on the way back to see all the other runners cheering and giving high fives. After the last 2 runners I carried on powering to the finish. Watch time of 33:27sec and I believe I ran the second half faster than the first half. It was nice to be about to get work off to stay for the presentation and collect my award. It was great to receive the Doctor Simeon Hansard Trophy again for the 4th year in a row. Newark AC do a super job each year putting this event on year after year (32 years) fingers crossed I can do it next year.
Southwell's Katy Simpson won the ladies event won the ladies trophy and completed the week in a magnificent eighth overall place.
