Third place at Donington
Newark Sidecar Racing team Simon Horton and Adam Buxton rode to two third places on their return to Donington Park at the weekend where they were racing in the Bemsee club races.
Adam Buxton returned to action as passenger following his absence last weekend and the pair was racing in a mixed grid of F1 and F2 teams plus a contingent of British championship teams who were using the track time to test their machines.
Being the only team on the grid with a F1 Pre Injection outfit Horton/Buxton were on the back foot up against some classy opposition but they completed their free practice in fifth place overall and fourth place in the F1 club class.
They went on to qualify in ninth place overall and were to start the first race on Saturday from a fifth row grid position. But as they completed the warm up lap they discovered the outfit had a split oil pipe and they were forced to withdraw from the race.
As it happens lady luck was with them as there was a crash involving a number of the front runners at the first corner and if they had been running in the race they would have been in the middle of the pack and possibly been involved.
The non start on Saturday put them at a disadvantage for the start of race two on Sunday as they were placed on row 12 near the back of the field. But once the race got underway Horton/Buxton made their way forward and crossed the finish line in third place in their class plus shaved another two seconds from their personal best lap time.
Starting the final race from the fourth row once again Horton/Buxton enjoyed a good, clean race and took the chequered flag in third place to pick up two more trophies to add to their collection.
The next race for WINTEC Racing will be the annual Sidecar Revival meeting at Cadwell Park over the weekend of June 22/23.
